Meet the lobbyists, donors and bundlers behind Hillary’s $157 million juggernaut

On the campaign trail, Hillary Clinton has repeatedly said she will stand up to big banks, drug companies and other special interests. “Democracy can’t just be for billionaires and corporations,” she proclaims. 

But she has struggled to answer questions about her ties to Wall Street, telling CNN’s Anderson Cooper Wednesday night she accepted $675,000 in speaking fees from one investment bank because “that’s what they offered” and that financial firms are not giving her “very much money now.” In fact, as new campaign disclosure reports filed this week reveal, Clinton has been fueled by millions from a network of well-connected Washington lobbyists, Wall Street bundlers and billionaire donors.

Here is a Yahoo News guide to some of the key players in Clinton’s $157 million campaign:

A savvy political operative who was once chief of staff to Democratic Majority Leader Dick Gephardt, Elmendorf now runs Subject Matter, a go-to Democratic lobbying firm for corporate interests, raking more than $10 million in fees last year. Among its top clients: Wall Street banks (Goldman Sachs and Citigroup), the casino industry (the American Gaming Association), telecoms (Verizon and Time Warner), tech firms (Facebook and Microsoft), agribusiness (Monsanto) and the NFL.

The superlobbyist brother of John Podesta, Clinton’s campaign chairman, he runs Podesta Group — a powerhouse firm for defense contractors (Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Bechtel), pharmaceutical and health insurance giants (Merck and Blue Cross-Blue Shield) and banking and private equity firms (Well Fargo, Credit Suisse Group, KKR). Podesta has used his D.C. mansion, famously decorated with expensive modern art, to host a Clinton fundraiser (offering fine Italian cooking by him and his brother) as well as a book party for Clinton super-PAC attack dog David Brock (co-hosted by Clinton campaign lawyer Marc Elias and Clinton email pal Sidney Blumenthal.) Another branch of Podesta’s portfolio: foreign governments, including several — Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Burma and the Maldives — accused by the State Department of human rights abuses. A new senior partner working on the firm’s new $1.68 million a year Saudi account: David Adams, former assistant secretary for legislative affairs while Clinton was secretary of state.

The stylish ex-wife of Tony Podesta, who battled with him over the expensive art in their home during a messy divorce, she runs her own rival firm, Heather Podesta & Partners. It raked in $7.5 million last year lobbying for MacAndrews & Forbes (the Wall Street investment firm owned by billionaire Ronald Perelman) as well as Marathon Oil, the Cigna Corp. and the National Pork Producers Council, among others. But one of her new clients has raised the most eyebrows: the National Cannabis Industry Association, making her the pot lobbyist in chief on Capitol Hill. 

Sullivan is the former DNC finance chair who first got attention as the supervisor of John Huang, the fundraiser convicted of campaign finance violations during Bill Clinton’s 1996 reelection. Sullivan, who is Clinton’s most prolific Lobbyist bundler, now is a partner at Capitol Counsel, which specializes in protecting tax breaks for private equity and real estate investment firms (Blackstone, Beacon Capitol Partners and the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts.) Other big clients include the PhRMA, the drug industry’s lobbying arm, and two of its leading members (Roche Holdings and Amgen.) Sullivan recently dropped one of his clients, a firm that electronically monitors prison inmates, after Clinton met with a racial justice group and said she would not take money from lobbyists for private prison companies. Sullivan’s partner at his lobbying firm, David Jones, another longtime Democratic fundraiser, has bundled another $386,000. 

When the former Indiana Democratic senator announced his retirement in 2010, he bemoaned the “corrosive” impact of money in politics. But since then, Bayh has become a K Street fixture as a “strategic adviser” to the business clients of McGuireWoods, the legal, lobbying and fundraising juggernaut that represents Exxon Mobil, Duke Energy and the National Association of Manufacturers, among others. Bayh, who hosted a fundraiser for Clinton at the McGuireWoods K St. office last spring, also serves as a strategic adviser to Apollo Management, the Wall Street private equity firm (which paid Clinton $225,000 for a speech after she left office.) Two of his McGuireWoods colleagues, Andrew Smith and former South Carolina Gov. Jim Hodges, are also bundlers who have raised $240,000 for the Clinton campaign while lobbying for clients that include Smithfield Foods (now owned by the Chinese-based Shuanghui Group) and Dandong Port Group, a Hong Kong-registered port and grain importing firm owned by secretive Chinese billionaire Wenliang Wang, who has donated $2 million to the Clinton Foundation.

After serving as Hillary Clinton’s deputy secretary of state, Nides returned through the Wall Street revolving door to become vice chairman of Morgan Stanley. A top Clinton bundler, he has helped raise $205,198 from the investment bank’s executives and employees, including donations from the firm’s chief operating officer, its chiefs of fixed income and wealth management, two managing directors and four members of its board of directors. Morgan Stanley, which last year agreed to pay a $2.6 billion fine to settle U.S. government claims over its role in the 2008 financial crisis, has donated $250,000 to the Clinton Foundation. It also paid Hillary Clinton $225,000 for a speech in 2013, two and a half months afar she stepped down as secretary of state.

He is the chairman of Goldman Sachs, the Wall Street colossus that last month agreed to pay a $5.1 billion fine to settle a Justice Department investigation for its role in marketing subprime mortgage bonds in the runup to the 2008 financial crisis. Among the Goldman executives who helped Blankfein’s firm profit from the crash: Donald Mullen, the former chief of its credit department, who last year made a $1 million donation to Clinton’s super-PAC, Priorities USA Action. “Sounds like we will make some serious money,” Mullen wrote in an email in the fall of 2007, after learning the subprime mortgage market was about to crash, according to a 2011 Senate report. The firm has also been the single biggest source of funds for Hillary Clinton’s post-government speaking career, paying her $625,000 for three speeches since she stepped down as secretary of state in 2012. Blankfein so far has been sitting out the 2016 race. “I don’t want to help or hurt anybody by giving them an endorsement,” he said in a rare TV interview this week. But his wife, Laura, gave the legal maximum of $2,700 to Clinton, and Blankfein, in his interview this week, said that Sanders’ candidacy has “the potential to be a dangerous moment.” Goldman Sachs’ ties to the Clintons have been personal and political: Goldman’s executives and employees have contributed $750,000 to Clinton’s political campaigns, including $100,616 to this year’s run. The firm itself has donated at least $250,000 to the Clinton Foundation and paid $1.2 million to Bill Clinton for speeches dating back to 2001. Blankfein, who has described himself as a friend of Hillary Clinton, has lent a helping financial hand to the Clinton family: He (along with two other former Goldman executives) is among the investors in Eaglevale Partners, the hedge fund founded in 2011 by Marc Mezvinsky, husband of Chelsea Clinton, and the former secretary’s son in law.

A billionaire hedge fund kingpin, co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucs and avid high-stakes poker player (for stakes as much as $20,000 a hand) Lasry is among Clinton’s most steadfast Wall Street backers, with close personal ties to her family. He has donated between $100,000 and $250,000 to the Clinton Foundation, hired Chelsea Clinton at his Avenue Capital hedge fund, invested (along with Blankfein) in son-in-law Mezvinsky’s fund and made his corporate jet available to Clinton while she was senator. When Clinton launched her campaign last year, Lasry threw one of the initial fundraisers, sending out an email saying he would “love to try to raise 270” — as in $270,000.

The former right-wing journalist now runs an interlocking network of pro-Clinton nonprofits and super-PACs informally known as “Brocktopus.” One of Brock’s arms is Correct the Record, a super-PAC that has collected $3.4 million from wealthy donors while openly proclaiming its intention to coordinate with the Clinton campaign — an arrangement that some experts say may violate campaign finance law. (The Clinton campaign has made two payments to Brock’s super-PAC totaling $281,000 for “research.”) The Brock super-PAC, which received a $1 million infusion from allied pro-Clinton super-PAC Priorities USA Action last December, was the first to raise questions about Bernie Sanders’ medical records; Correct the Record was also recently outed for offering “off the record” tips about Sanders to a Vermont newspaper. Brock’s ties to the Clinton world are close and multilayered: When he held the book party for his tome, “Kill the Messenger,” last September at the home of Clinton bundler Tony Podesta (see the K Street Army), the co-hosts included Marc Elias, chief counsel for the Clinton campaign, who also serves as the lawyer for Correct the Record and allied Democratic super-PACs, and Sidney Blumenthal, Clinton’s most prolific email correspondent, who was being paid by another Brock outfit, Media Matters, as well as the Clinton Foundation.

The billionaire Hungarian-born hedge fund investor has been among the biggest donors to Democratic causes for years but has recently stepped up his game for Clinton. New disclosure reports show he cut a $6 million check last December to Priorities USA Action — the main super-PAC backing her candidacy. That’s on top of another $1 million check to Priorities earlier in the year as well as $1 million to American Bridge 21st Century, an allied super-PAC run by David Brock (see above). An insight into Soros’ thinking was revealed in a State Department email in which a Clinton ally described a conversation in which Soros said “he has been impressed that he can always call/meet with you on an issue of policy” and that he regretted backing Obama over her in 2008. Other million-dollar donors to Priorities: Hollywood moguls Stephen Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg, Wall Street heavyweights Donald Mullen (a former Goldman Sachs executive) and Donald Sussman and investor Haim Saban (see below).

A one-time bass guitarist in an Israeli rock band, multibillionaire Los Angeles-based tycoon Saban — who is best known for creating the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers — may be Clinton’s most generous and committed superdonor: He proclaimed last year he would spend “whatever it takes” to elect her president. But Saban, who has donated $10 million to the Clinton Foundation and whose wife serves on its board, may be in a position to help her candidacy in other ways: He is principal owner and CEO of Univision, the largest Spanish-language media organization in the country.

Dennis Cheng is the silent chief of the Clinton fundraising operation — the national finance director who is almost never seen in public and refuses to talk to reporters. Cheng joined the campaign after serving for four years as chief fundraiser for the Clinton Foundation, where he collected hundreds of millions of dollars from overseas donors that have generated intense media scrutiny and allegations of conflict of interest for Clinton. Cheng’s ties to Clinton go way back: He started as an intern during her 2000 Senate run, gradually moving up to become her finance director while she was in the Senate, then moving with her to the State Department as deputy chief of protocol.

John Burnett brings a world of Republican potential.

One thing the Brownstone Republican Club can do.. is spot a winner.

When he ran for NYC Comptroller in 2013, Mr. John Burnett opened many eyes. With a successful career in finance under his belt, Mr. Burnett was able to win-over audiences with a clear understanding of what’s at stake with NYC finances, opportunity and a desire to hold so many feet to the fire. But he ran against a mainline Democrat in Manhattan President Scott Stringer, and the media seemed to discount aptitude specific to the role — over a well-known political name.

John Burnett spoke to the BRC in our first meeting back from the summer break. He updated our 26 attendees about his speaking engagements, and their affect at turning people’s opinions about the Republican party. While the media portrays Republicans far differently, Mr. Burnett speaks throughout NYC schools about responsibility, saving and investing. His real-world approaches, and his impact goes on regardless of what the media misses, disregards or excuses outright, from the One Party Rule we’ve seen across generations.

All attending were treated to many anecdotes with a positive impact. And while BRC has steadily urged our Republican party to adopt an Urban Agenda (to oppose the Democrat historic stranglehold on so many cities from St. Louis to Baltimore to NYC – and how the media’s use/portrayal of BlackLivesMatter is similar to OccupyWallStreet, as a device), Mr. Burnett took the baton from discussion, to what he’s been up to, to help make this a reality. Following a welcome and introduction by BRC’s President that praised him for his role in helping elevate Dr. Ben Carson — he added personal views that showed both a humble approach, but an intelligent understanding of all that’s possible for the Republican party.

After August’s first GOP Presidential debate, John Burnett invited Dr. Carson to Harlem for a luncheon and invited many political and business leaders (of all political parties and religious affiliation) not to limit the event. But it was the walk down the streets of Harlem, where Dr. Carson was approached by media/cameras and residents where the event, and its intelligence really shined (click for video). It’s always a gamble, having a Republican national candidate walk among people in a Democrat-stronghold (for how any negative will be expanded across the biased media). Because of the openness and grace in which he met with passersby and media, Dr. Carson came-away a big winner.

Our group and Mr. Burnett covered quite a lot of ground this evening. Everything from summer events, to the Pope’s historic NYC visit and back to local politics. In discussion about the Rob Astorino for NY Governor campaign of 2014, BRC members relayed how it had hoped to introduce the failed Astorino campaign to our work for Long Island College Hospital (LICH). How the fight had “made a Mayor” of DeBlasio. How it helped Zephyr Teachout’s consideration across our millions of voters, locally in her primary bid — and how that “local issue” could have changed Public perception of Astorino as a fighter for Brooklyn, for heathcare/hospitals and the jobs lost? We discovered that Mr. Burnett was another potential weapon at Astorino’s side — one we only wish was used to its fullest potential.

As we move into the Fall of 2015, and the opening of the 2016 Presidential election year, we have to remain hopeful that more candidates and campaigns see the real potential that men like Mr. Burnett can bring. We’ve now seen it, up close.

The Iran-Nuclear deal (video).. you have got to see.

Is the Iran deal worth the paper its printed on? That’s up for debate.

If you’d believe the Left, Obama is always right. He is to be unquestioned. Opposition is either crazy, uniformed or belittled. It’s like a BAD MOVIE. As far as the Obama-Iran deal, if you don’t agree – and agree right now – the only alternative is WAR. Buoyed by the White House, Kerry and each minion with a voice has said the same: if you are against this deal — you want WAR. It’s black and white. But, its all very bizarre. And it all came to a culmination with the silly video, below — that was linked across Social media and is a must-see.

“The agreement currently on the table is the best way to ensure Iran doesn’t build up a [expletive] bomb,” says actor Morgan Freeman on this video. The video has a named that “Jack Black and Morgan Freeman drop the mic on the Iran deal.” Final word. The mic is dropped…

Saturday Night Live couldn’t have done better (or worse).  Click the above linked/photo to see how the Iran Deal was positioned for young Americans (?). Valerie Plame is included, for credibility? about a Nuclear agreement with a nation that’s been a state sponsor of terrorism for most of the lives of its actors. That fact, naturally is unmentioned. But a Frisbee figures in prominently. 

If the Republicans had promoted a video this silly… it would lead nightly TV news, and be fodder for late-night shows for years. So, how could anyone doubt the accord? By the animated graphic (below) it makes it seem that the West will be able to gauge the program at every turn. But, does Iran sees that way?

CNN asks Brent Bozell about sweeping Republican Wins.

CNN host interviews Brent Bozell — who has an interesting perspective of how the voters weren’t influenced by media-bias, this time around. Although the “media” hasn’t reported much on a string of scandals — to protect this White House he surmises — did the voters by in large, see right through it? Or, maybe reacted to what they know was right or wrong?

People couldn’t vote Obama out in 2014, but surely Americans across all States had to remember him golfing through the ISIS beheading of an American, heath-care costs rising, etc. etc.?

BRC joins Sunday’s march for LICH as Ebola reaches NYC

Our City is in an Ebola scare — and our community still marches, still fights for LICH to remain a full service hospital. The paradox struck more than a few of us at the march…

Both our NYC Mayor and NYS Governor are locked in a series of national media conferences, falling over each other to be The Face of the crisis. To appear like they are in control, which we all know they are not — not of the crisis and not of their own images. Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan has what?.. one or two hospital beds dedicated to the treatment as per CDC guidance and compliance? NJ just quarantined, then let go another nurse returning from African service vs. Ebola? Yet, our Mayor and our Governor have NO TIME to visit our community — and openly take responsibility for selling a hospital that a million Brooklyn residents and visitors need. There’s now an ENTIRE HOSPITAL AT LICH that now sits empty. Capable of a national quarantine protocol or anyone entering and suspect from Newark, JFK? But neither Gov. Cuomo nor Mayor DeBlasio can mention that? (Its simply no longer on their minds?).

Sunday’s march was a focus on asking DiNapoli (our Comptroller) and Scheiderman (or State’s Attorney General) to not sign-off on the LICH deal. That a letter was penned and signed by local elected officials — in hopes that these two, that have all but ignored the LICH issue across 2013 and 2014, would now act? No mention of LICH was passed at both their local debates. No signs, but the ones held by Sunday’s protestors — are connected to their concern about our issue.

But the rally was strong, and again it felt good to see how our community can rise as one — and knows how to defend itself.

Democrats’ pettiness comes out, anyhow.

On Sunday, local reporters were told (by Democrat candidates, officials at that)… that the Brownstone Club is just showing up to use the event for politics.

Insulting, as four of our members volunteered their time to help organize the event on behalf of Patients for LICH, made and supported the production of its materials/hand-signs and contacted people to promote the event. Brownstone wasn’t mentioned in the press release (and we don’t exist for self-lauding as many in politics do). But clearly, some promoters had used the fact that Republicans and Democrats were coming together for the issue of saving LICH. That much is fine, its truthful and its always been the case.  While local Democrats also band-up in front of cameras, our members are just part of the crowd. Supportive. Vocal. Uncaring of the politics, rather for the need/vitality of the hospital and surrounding healthcare infrastructure — that’s been attacked by Governor Cuomo, SUNY and NYS Dept. of Health. The issue matters. Not using it. To us, anyway.

It was hurtful that local Democrats would whisper to reporters that we’re only there now, as if we’ve come late to the fight (with an agenda)? This clearly is not only an untruth for anyone that’s been around for the last few years — as even our blog (here) has a chronological account. We’ve marched across the Brooklyn Bridge. We’ve funded Doctors for LICH for years. Our members live and breathe all-thing for LICH, as we’re part of the fabric of this community. We’ve been to the meetings, the rallies, the many events. We’ve enlisted Mayoral candidates to the issue — long before it was used by then candidate Bill DeBlasio (last July) to gain an edge over Mr. Thompson. We’ve discussed LICH with a littany of elected officials, media members and community members. Many BRC members additionally were born at LICH (something that no local elected official can say). For 150+ years, LICH was vital to our community — and still is.

THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT we are doing all we can vs. the One Party system, that has Elected Officials playing one game in public — but doing as close to nothing by way of legislation at the State, NYC or Federal levels to address what is a CRIME (but speaking at protests for the cameras?). Our Republican candidate for Assembly, John Jasilli, said so in sharp wording. At some point, the community will understand what he meant. How could our State and Legislative members not have put across tandem legislation or a hearing?

Our community is up in arms — only it isn’t made to know that the enemy has been the duplicity of our Public officials all along?

Brownstone to march for LICH — invites NYS campaigns.

Protest march is set, rain or shine on Atlantic Avenue — starting 1 pm this upcoming Sunday at Nevins Street, down to LICH (at Hicks Street).

LICH is Governor Cuomo’s political Achilles Heel — and its all right-there for Rob Astorino. Still.

While scoring in the only scheduled debate tonight in the NY Governor’s race… nevertheless, Rob Astorino’s campaign missed (again) what might have delivered him the election. Astorino said early in 2014 that he needed but 30% of NYC — and that could’ve been assured, had the people of Brooklyn (and media across NYC) witnessed a GOP candidate showing how much he cared. This issue, remember, made a Mayor out of DeBlasio.. as he persuaded the locals that he’d champion the cause and fight for LICH (locals that mostly knew him far differently, as more of an opportunist for 20+ years). If this is what drives and motivates politicians: DeBlasio went from 7% to 24% in two weeks, after famously being arrested (on camera) at a protest.

On Sunday, October 26th at 1 pm on Atlantic Avenue (at Nevins Street) many 100s of local community members, including many active Brownstone members — will march to LICH. Our Brownstone members have emailed, made calls, prepared press releases, helped the organizers behind the scenes. (Dr. Jon Berall is depicted). There’s NO doubt that local Democrat officials will show, get to the front and continue the pretense they have something to do with the solution — when we ALL know they will not use the c-word. They won’t say Cuomo’s at fault, especially on camera. If people vote for our John Jasilli for State Assembly in the 52nd A.D. — he’d mentioned Cuomo’s name and be a Godsend for locals. He’d investigate and expose the connections with SUNY and NYS Dept. of Health, and why exactly it is that LICH isn’t currently an operating full-service hospital.

Rob Astorino should attend, as everyone here KNOWs the assault on our local hospital by NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo is his Achilles Heel.  Cuomo doesn’t care. Astorino could have shown he does. He could have opposed the Governor, saying so to his face on television — but that chance is now gone.

In the manner that someone named “Zephyr Teachout” beat Cuomo 2-to-1 across our areas in September’s primary.. in the manner where Mayor DeBlasio’s hand-picked successor to our Assemblywoman Joan Millman was routed… both, because all across our areas, voters were treated to a campaign promise (of fighting for LICH) ignored within weeks of his inauguration. When DeBlasio sided with Gov. Cuomo, then sent mail locally about how the closing was actually a better deal for the 1,000s that have been fighting, protesting, funding court battles for over a year, etc. — people had enough with the Mayor. LICH is more important. They need a hero. Rob Astorino could have, should have seen this — and we’ve tried to reach his campaign 100 ways to Sunday.

Now, we’ll take to the streets on Sunday ourselves. Again.

Fighting the Battle vs. Cuomo.

The community’s fight has long been abandoned by elected officials, mostly local Democrats that have found some tall grass to hide in from both Gov. Cuomo and their constituents. An organization now taking the lead in this fight is “Patients for LICH” — click here for a recent court try/battle — a pithy name for local neighbors that naturally understand the importance of this 150+ year old hospital, far more than our elected officials and their promises, rhetoric and back-tracking. Mayor DeBlasio? Cannot find him. Councilmembers? Assemblywoman? State Senator Squadron.. all suddenly AWOL and unreachable for quotes by our local media, with the Governor’s race at hand. All “good Democrats” for Andrew — and turning their backs on the 100,000s of us that live, travel and depend on LICH. And yet, this year they cannot blame “Republicans” as our candidate John Jasilli has vowed to shed the light on the NY State’s role in closing a viable hospital.

Long Island College Hospital is not dead – although there’s only one candidate that will fight any and all powers-that-be to insure its vitality for Brooklyn residents.

Park Slope attorney John Jasilli stood before the Brownstone Republican Club on September 29th and made a clear case why voters across the 52^nd Assembly District need to have a choice. Within minutes, he crystalized what our local elected leaders cannot bring themselves say: Gov. Cuomo’s role in the destruction of LICH needs to be investigated by the Legislative branch of NY State. 

His first point was vital, questioning how Cuomo suddenly determined that Long Island College Hospital (LICH) could not function as a full-service hospital after 150 years? And in consideration of the soaring Housing developments across DUMBO, the Heights, across Downtown.. and the Barclays Center and tourists drawn to Pier 6, Fulton Street… a full service hospital is exactly what areas sorely require.

1. Transparency and Ethics in NYS government.

2. Re-open LICH as a full-service hospital.

3. Bring the NY State Legislature to examining and “opening the books” of LICH, its oversight by SUNY, and its billing processes across the last few years. Examine how the Governor acted by installing leadership at SUNY and then using SUNY and NYS Dept. of Health through stages to justify the loss of LICH, eliminating it’s 2000 jobs, not finding an organization suitable to run LICH as a full-service hospital. 4. NY State’s financial responsibility and a “friendlier” Business environment:  a)fewer fines and regulations b) incentives especially to Small & Mid-sized businesses, leading to Job Creation c) more Housing to satisfy the law of Supply & Demand d) responsible development of the Gowanus District (holding the DeBlasio Administration/City Planning Dept.’s feet to the fire for a failure of a vision, that the community can understand and generally look forward to seeing)

5. Better school planning and More Choice.

Mr. Jasilli thus outlined why he’s running and what he’d work for that will set him apart from Joan Millman’s hand-picked successor (Ms. JoAnne Simon/D.) and a former lobbyist from the Working Family Party with political ties to DeBlasio (Peter Sikora).

Many of the members of the Brownstone Republican Club walked his petitions, in order to get Mr. Jasilli on the ballot for November. The BRC believed he’d be a strong, smart and independent voice – and this has been proven true. Mr. Jasilli owes no donor anything, and is swayed by logic – and having raised his family across Park Slope and our areas of Brooklyn.

John Jasilli believes people are ready to vote for people that will make a difference for them – and not their individual political career-paths. None of our elected officials (all Democrats) for example, will blame Governor Cuomo by name for the attack on LICH – as they have fallen back into a typical “get along, go along”-mode. Many will not even answer questions about LICH. Therefore, a “life and death”-issue of supporting LICH across 2013 and 2014 – which was used to make a Mayor out of Bill DeBlasio (when he joined the fight in mid-July of 2013) is now summarily ignored because both our Mayor and Governor can be harmed, politically?

What about us — should we need medical attention?

This is very typical of local politics, and the time has come to start voting for candidates that can shake things up ONLY to serve the people of the community.

NY State bureaucracy kills manufacturer in Carroll Gardens /Gowanus area.

Statewide Fireproof Door Company in Carroll Gardens (Gowanus area) operating for 49 years, will soon close its doors after seeing it’s “workman comp” insurance rates increase 380% for six workers. President Darrel Caneiro appealed to a number of LOCAL POLS to fix the problem, but says ultimately: “bureaucracy killed us”.

“This is a story about how a state bureaucracy killed a vital Brooklyn factory.

“It’s the wrong way to die,” says Darrell Caneiro, president of Statewide Fireproof Door Co. in Carroll Gardens. “Since last year the New York State Compensation Rating Board raised my workman comp insurance rates 380% for my six workers in a small family business. It has killed us. We will shut the door of Statewide Door for the last time, after 49 years, in 10 days.”

Who pays the compensation to a neighborhood when one of its only manufacturing plants, an honest to goodness factory that makes real stuff — residential and commercial fire doors that you see on boiler rooms, movie theater fire exits, hospitals, schools and apartment houses all over Brooklyn — has been killed by a bloodless bureaucracy that literally pounced like a vampire and sucked the blood out of its neck?”

Mets Opening Day – Mayor DeBlasio throws 1st pitch and is widely BOOed.

While one sportswriter in the NY Daily News yesterday wondered if he’ll even get there by the 4th inning… today, Mayor DeBlasio is honored by the NY Mets. He’s scheduled to toss the ceremonial 1st pitch of the season at around 1:10 pm. Wonder how the crowd will receive him, or if he’ll wear a Mets or Red Sox cap?
